About Us
Founded in 1975, the Nantucket School of Music, formerly the Nantucket Community Music Center, has evolved into a vibrant and essential part of the island’s cultural life and is dedicated to fostering and supporting music education and performance opportunities for young people and adults.
Our goal is to cultivate the aesthetic side of young people and to help them develop their individual musical talents. This often results in the joy of life-long involvement in music. We serve many students of all ages in weekly private instrumental and vocal lessons, chamber ensembles, community chorus and jazz band. Our sixteen dedicated and professional faculty members are graduates of such prominent schools as Juilliard School of Music, New England Conservatory of Music, Hartt School of Music, Columbia University, Boston Conservatory of Music and Crane School of Music.
The Nantucket School of Music collaborates with the Nantucket Arts Council, Nantucket Public Schools, Coffin School, Nantucket Atheneum, Nantucket Community School, Town of Nantucket parks and Recreation Department and the local churches.
Due to our strong belief in the importance of music, we offer a generous scholarship program to qualified young people.
